Cyclist Killed in Battle Mountain by Hit and Run.

It still floors me that any human can do this to another person. Hit someone with your car....know you did it (drunk or not) and leave someone dying on the side of the road rather than offer to help. There should be a special place in hell for this type of behavior.

Cyclist Killed on Mill St.

This is my daily ride....really disturbing as Mill St. has very clearly marked bike lanes and the intersection with Telegraph has good lines of sight. This article provides very little detail (or course), but indicates the cyclist was hit "outside" a marked intersection....
It's worth noting that in the photo capture above...the cyclist appears to have been traveling west bound just prior to the telegraph intersection. While RGJ describes it as crossing Mill St. outside a marked intersection it appears he was probably trying to cross the two 50 mph lanes of traffic to get to the left turn lane for telegraph. This is a common turn off to get away from the high speed traffic on Mill, but also really hard to do since you're merging from the far right.
Looks to me like he was hit from behind in the process. It's also worth noting the car delivery semi in the background. These guys very often park in the bike lane forcing riders out into traffic in this area. I wonder if this played a roll as well?
Either way...someone died yesterday and my thoughts go out to the family and friends. Everyone be careful out there as we wrap up bike to work week.

Another fatal hit and run....who does this!!!?
What kind of person hits someone with their car (bike/ped/or otherwise) and leaves the scene of a collision...letting a person suffer and die on the side of a road!? I know why...because the penalty for drunk driving is higher than the penalty for hit and run. I think it's time our legislature steps up and changes this. I think if you leave the scene the penalty should be the same as the injury you caused. They die...you get the death penalty. Broken leg....get out the sledge hammer. Might be harsh...but to avoid this penalty all you have to do is have a soul, be a decent human being, and stop to call for help if you hit someone! I bet there wouldn't be too many hit and runs if it worked this way!

Cyclist killed in Gardnerville.
I can't believe I've only just heard about this one today (from ktvn channel 2):
So right now all we know is that this is a car vs. bike collision.....but based on the description, "Investigators say both bike and car were traveling the same direction on Pine Nut Road. The driver was making a right turn onto another road when the right rear of his vehicle struck the bike.", this is a classic case of the right hook move. Meaning a driver passes a cyclist and then proceeds to execute a right turn directly across the path of the cyclist. If this is a correct description, the judge should be up for a very real penalty!

Cyclist Killed in Fernley.

Any way you look at this it's a terrible situation (both for the rider and the driver). There aren't any details in the report here or at alternate sources and the investigation is ongoing. At this point no fault has been assigned.
However, I can't help but not be able to get over this picture. The article says the cyclist was riding in front of the truck and there is a pretty obvious dent in the front middle of the trucks hood and the bumper is angled down (which happens when you rear end someone). I realized cyclists can swerve suddenly to avoid obstacles or for other reasons, but to get the to middle of this truck is a pretty big swerve.
Generally speaking when you rear end someone you're automatically "at fault". Why isn't this the case here? And yes, I realized these things could have preexisted on the truck prior to the incident. I'm just posing the questions since a cyclist died as the result of the incident. Either way I'm watching for the results of the investigation.
