Holy July Megapost....part one.

Ok...I took a whole month off.  Here's the long and short of it via the standard picture and comment tour.

Rolling on the River Concert Series....Artown.

High Sierra Music Festival.  Dirty Hippies and Good Music!

Food truck Fridays at Idlewild (still going on)!

Interesting modes of transportation.

More interesting transportation at the Reno Bike Project.  Rock the handlebars up and down and off you go!

Weekend parties where 90 percent of people show up on bikes.  Damn near filled the garage!

Visiting cycle tourists!

New (to me) truck.....made camper ready.

Road Trip.

More road trip.

Seeing touring cyclists while doing a road trip....and feeling shameful for all the driving I was doing!

Camping.

Cave Lake at Sunset...if you haven't been you should check it out!

Visiting old haunts....Knotch Peak in Western Utah.

Neutrino Collectors in the desert!

Water park break in Delta Utah.

From Canyons to Commutes.

Ok, officially back to the real world today.  I'm trading this view...

For this....

Right now it's still kind of a crashing back to reality thing.  Although, despite some good mountain biking and random rides over the last month, I don't think I've spent less time on a bike in several years.  So just having a regular ride is sounding kind of good!

The fun part is that Reno is actually changing quite rapidly these days.  Upon my return the Virginia street bridge was just a memory, Keystone Ave. bike lanes are actually going in, and decisions about how we're going to rebuild Midtown are actually being made!  So I should have a ton of stuff to ramble on about for the foreseeable future!

There was Utah and Colorado!

I know it's been dead around here....but a good blogger doesn't advertise when he's on vacation after listing his address publicly.  Anyway, there will be more regular posts now that I'm back Reno side.  Needless to say, there was much camping, biking, rivers, and more.  A few pics to wet your whistle!

New to me truck and my camper...bike in the background is for the pic below.

Now that is a single track!  Fruita, Colorado.....been meaning  to stop here for years.  It finally happened and it was worth the wait!

Cycling tourists and Warm Showers.

If you've never heard of Warm Showers you're likely not into cycle touring.  Basically it's a list server you can sign up for and if you're on the road touring and need a place to crash you can find someone in the area who will host you.  It might just be camping in their yard and access to a bathroom....or a nice comfy bed, a warm meal, and a shower.  Just depends on what the host offers.

Anyway, I've been a member for about a year and recently had my first visitor.  A gentleman from Spain (more particularly the Basque countryside).  He's on a tour from San Francisco out to Elko, up to Boise, over to Portland, and back to San Francisco....all in search of elements of Basque heritage here in the region.  If you didn't know Nevada and Idaho have more Basque than anywhere except the homeland....and UNR has the largest Basque library in the country.

Anyway Xabi was a great guy and I got two days of culture in exchange for taking him out in Reno and giving him a place to rest up for a couple days.  Perhaps some of you might be interested in a similar experience?  If so check out Warmshowers.org!

Riding with Xabi on the way out of town.

A must have picture with the classic Reno arch.

Jurassic bicycle!?

I know the new Jurassic World movie is out...this seems the only possible way to tie it to a bike blog!

Quote of the day....

I'm taking a little time off from work this month...like the month.  So postings will be a bit less regular.  However, I don't want you to lose motivation so here's a little quote to keep you rolling.

People are Idiots....

Now I know there aren't many people who talk up used car salesmen as "pillars of society", but this move might just take the cake if you're a cyclist.

The saddest part is this example is right here in Reno (Carzone on Kietzke Lane).  I'm not sure if this is the worst attempt at advertising ever, a test drive ending with a customer who can't parallel park, or just the douchbagery that comes with having a truck that size.  Any way you look at it, it's an epic fail.  The only real question is why isn't there a ticket on that windshield!?
