Holland Project....We Heart Bicycle Art.

Well, another bike to work week is in the books.  Definitely wasn't our typical weather patterns with a lot of wind and significant amounts of rain.  I attended several of the organized events in both good and bad weather and turn out was impressive either way!  Anyway, I hope you got out and used the designated week as an excuse to ride your bicycle.

This year (thanks to some date changes) the bicycle art show was our wrap up event.  It was a good show with several pieces I would have bought....if only I'd gotten there before everyone else bought them!?  Having lost my opportunity to purchase fine bicycle themed art I was forced to enjoy some beer and hang out with friends.  Oh...and by the way...the art on the wall is only one type of exhibit.  The full bike racks outside provided their own type of art!

Some of the group from our bikepacking trip enjoying the gallery.

There were personal impromtu dance parties throughout the evening.

People looking at art....

A "modern" penny farthing.  It kind of made me chuckle that it was locked up.  I'm guessing most people couldn't have ridden away with it!

A custom built frame...with patina and then a clear coat.

And a custom chopper!  Talk about bike porn!  And yes, it s a car/trailer rim...drilled for spokes.  Also, a hand actuated brake.  Totally awesome!

Even more things to do for bike week!

It's not over folks...here's a run down of things to come!

Tonight:

Saturday:

Saturday, May 16th: Slow Roll to the Art Show

This month’s Slow Roll will be a small-time affair, but still as light-hearted fun as always. We’ll ride from RBP to The Holland Project just before the We HeArt Bikes Show begins, on May 16 (show starts at 6, so we’ll leave at 5:30). At the Art Show, you can peruse, discuss, and buy art; listen to fantastic live music; and get a little creative, yourself!

Bike Bingo Blackout!

Ok....I'm offended if you think I drank so much during bicycle bingo that I blacked out.  Apparently, this is the term used if you fill every spot on your bingo card! That being said there were a few beers consumed once the card was filled.

I didn't really intend to go for it....but given that the grand prize available only via the blackout ticket was a jet light, I figured it was worth the effort.  Honestly, it wasn't that hard (only takes about 1/2 hour) and I was introduced to several businesses that I wouldn't normally have visited.  And now I know I have to go back and check them out more thoroughly!  So get out and hit some of the other bike to work week events....they are a blast.  Now to the pictures.

The whole shebang was quarterbacked out of the Statewide Lighting parking lot.

Midtown District and Midtown Creative Coalition were in on the fun.

Truckee Meadows Bicycle Alliance is the organizer of everything bike week....thanks Julie and everyone else!

Did you know that Washoe County Libraries offers bike up service!!??  They frickin' do!

Nom-Eats food truck was passing out FREE mini-burritos!  They were amazing....and generally I am a meat eater!  I will be finding them for a full meal in the future!  Reno Bike Project also ran a very nice bike valet service!

There were ton's of prizes for each "bingo" you earned.  You had to fight to get your tickets!

Did I mention a kiddie parade and kiddie obstacle course!?  By the way....most of the kids rode the obstacle course better than the adults.  Not even sure what that says about us.
